Sportskeeda is an all-sports website based in Bangalore (India) that functions on the principle of crowdsourcing. It is essentially a network of fans and writers who express their opinions on a variety of subjects related to sports. The site publishes around 150 articles every day, which are primarily made up of news reports, interviews, reviews, analysis, comics and satires. The site covers as many as 58 different sports, ranging from mainstream sports like football, cricket, tennis, basketball, hockey, Formula 1, badminton, wrestling andboxing, to niche ones like kabaddi and billiards.
Sportskeeda was started by its current Chief Executive Officer Porush Jain. The name of the website is derived from a colloquial Hindi term that is the sporting equivalent of the word ‘bookworm’; ‘Sportskeeda’ translates into sports worm, or sports lover, in English. The site was created in 2009 by Jain in association with his fellow sports fanatics Robin Chhabra and Anshu Prasad.Initially run from the office of Jain’s father in Noida, Sportskeeda moved its operations to Bangalore in 2011.With an initial strength of 15 employees together in the content and technology departments, Sportskeeda’s Bangalore office has expanded in size and scale, and now has 15 members in the editorial team. The company is owned and maintained by Absolute Sports Private Limited, a company incorporated on 10 June 2010.
