Story of Redbus.in

redBus, also known as redBus.in, is India's biggest online bus ticketing company.[citation needed] The company also sells tickets through offline outlets. It has offices in AhmedabadBangaloreChennaiCoimbatoreDelhi,HyderabadMumbaiPuneVijayawada and Visakhapatnam. It was taken over by the Ibibo Group, a joint venture of South Africa's Naspers and China's Tencent in June 2013.
redBus' CEO, Phanindra Sama was recently selected by Endeavor as a high impact entrepreneur. Also,Businessworld voted Phanindra Sama as one of the top 5 most promising entrepreneurs in India.

RedBus has crossed the one-crore (10 Million) mark in the number of tickets sold in July 2012. It has over 2 million registered users and is rapidly approaching the $200 million GMV (gross merchandize value) mark. The company lays a lot of focus on keeping their costs low. In May 2013, RedBus begin running their first series of Television adsIt does not own any plush offices, nor are the locations anything to boast about. Most of the properties are in nondescript locations, often close to the bus terminal


Phanindra Sama and Charan Padmaraju , the engineers from BITS Pilani who created the pioneering bus ticketing service redBus seven years ago, have sold their stake in the venture to the Ibibo Group, a joint venture of South Africa's Naspers and China's Tencent in June 2013.[9] RedBus is estimated to have a market share of 65 percent. RedBus now faces stiff competition from many new players such as Mantis (Travelyaari),AbhiBus and SimplyBus, but it is believed that none of the other companies have the convenience or bandwidth of Redbus’ offerings that combine consumers, operators and travel agents..
